Meshmixer Refinement of Aligners

Manual Orthodontic Overcorrection or Refinements on Segmented Dental Models

A valuable technique in orthodontic treatment, with aligner therapy using Meshmixer on segmented models generated by Autolign

This is a technique for making minor adjustments very quickly. It would work for tweaking the orthodontic case at the end stage when the desired end point has not been achieved.

Manual overcorrection or refinement is useful for several reasons.

  1. Firstly, it can be a time-efficient way to correct minor issues quickly. It allows clinicians to achieve the desired outcome without having to redo the entire orthodontic process – ie do not need to rescan etc.
  2. Secondly, this technique allows for greater control as each adjustment is made manually based on the current status.
